What To Do With Your Left Over Wrapping Paper

OK, technically the wrapping paper I used for this project wasn't left over. I found it in the clearance Christmas section at HomeGoods. That kind of counts as left overs right?

First, lets look at this inspirational picture:

Oh so pretty, right?

Now look at this picture. Not oh so pretty.

I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.

After some measuring, cutting, & taping my office bookshelf now looks like this:

So simple yet a bold impact on the space.

Hope everyone has a wonderful new year!

Painting Possibilities

I'm considering painting a piece of art for a couple rooms I'm my house.
Since most of my furnishings are neutral  this would be a good option for bringing in color.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fantastic painter by any means. I took a painting class in college and I did learn a few things but I am no Picasso. I do however come from a very artistic blood line. My mother is incredibly gifted in the art department. The woman paints and sews like no ones business. I think I got the awkward left overs from her but I'll take what I can get.

I really find this picture inspiring:

Clean white palette with blues & greens. Pretty.

Pop of Fuchsia

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. I know I did!
Ate lots of good food, visited with family and oh yes, opened presents.
But alas, Christmas is over and we are moving into the new year. I'm thinking bright & cheery for 2011 so today's post will feature fuchsia. A vibrant, fun color when used sparingly can go a long way.

Christmas Decor : Round 2

Last night I came home and walked into my living room and just stared. I tend to do that a lot.  Nate usually ends up breaking the awkward silence by asking me what I am doing even though he knows very well what I am doing. I am re-evaluating the room.
So last night at 9:30pm, I took down all my colorful Christmas decorations and
replaced them with cream, gold & silver .

And just 2 days before Christmas :)

Turquoise & Cream Christmas

Christmas is only a few days away & I can't wait! I want to re-decorate my house every time I see amazing holiday photos. I am in love with the combination of turquoise & cream. Turquoise in itself can be a very bold color but I love how soft it looks when paired with cream. Possibly my next years decor colors?

I was virtually flipping through Ivy & Piper's Mini Holiday publication
when I came across this side plate:

DIY: Shopping Bag Art

I found this picture floating around the internet and had to share.

Since the holiday season entails a lot of shopping, make sure you hold on to
those pretty bags to create your own DIY art piece.

It's About Time

I have been in a slump.
I will honestly say I have been lazy about getting things in motion.

I have so many projects around my house that need to begin as well as to be finished.

Exhibit A:  Chairs in need of reupholstering

Ya, these babies have been sitting in my garage for some time now. They should have been off to the upholsterer awhile ago. Especially since I received the fabric for them in the mail 2 weeks prior.

Exhibit B: The green bedroom

I have held off on posting pictures of my bedroom simply because I loathe it.
The green wall color makes me cringe and I refuse to do anymore decorating in this room to try and mask the hunter green monstrosity.

It's suppose to be in the works for repainting but lazy ol' me has put off calling the painter.

Exhibit C: Bathroom paint

Once again, another painting mishap. It's funny when an inexperienced person (aka: me) decides to pick the most saturated paint color to slap on the wall to bring "color" into the room.
It's not so funny when 2 years down the road that inexperienced person turns into a some-what knows what she's doing person and realizes she turned the bathroom into walk-in aquarium.
Needless to say I have learned my lessons on bold colors.

Those are few of the bigger projects that need to be completed
hopefully sometime before my thirties hit.

Anyone else have those projects you just don't want to go near?

Holiday Happy

Want some different options when it comes to decorating for Christmas?
Here are a few ideas to try around your home.

I have always loved the timeless idea of hanging wreathes in your windows. And don't forget the option of using candles in each window as well. It gives your house wonderful curb appeal.

Table top displays aren't just for your dinning rooms anymore.
Why not give your coffee table the same treatment?

Try incorporating your holiday decor into other rooms of the house.
This will give a cohesive look through out your home.

Using lights to create an over-sized art piece is a great idea!

Try using bright punches of color instead of traditional red & green.

Repetition is a great way to make a statement when decorating.
The variation of color and size really mixes things up.

Happy decorating!
